Bring an extra tent stake. Chances are, you will lose, break, bend beyond repair, one of your tent stakes. Even if you do not lose one, it may come in handy as an extra tie down for your tarp, or some other use.

I actually keep a couple with me (they are extremely lightweight – 6g – Titanium stakes from Lawson Outdoor Equipment) when I go in the out-of-doors, even for a dayhike. If I need to tie down my emergency blanket to use as a tarp where there are no points to tie down to weather out some…weather, or, wait where I am for rescue. These function as my backup tent stakes when I am packing a tent.
